With “Variations et Bergamasques”, Christine Fonlupt aimed to highlight French music from the 1890s around the forgotten figure of pianist and singer Thérèse Roger—a close friend of Chausson, jilted fiancée of Debussy, student of Fauré, and dedicatee of his *Thème et Variations* found on this album.
Chausson’s *4 Dances op. 26* are a moving homage to Debussy’s *Suite Bergamasque*. The album also includes 4 youthful works by Debussy.
